This type of iris is frequently confused with two others, Neomarcia longifolia and Trimezia martinicensis. Neomarcia longifolia appears to simply be a case a mistaken indentification, as there currently seems to be some degree of horticultural agreement (which can be hard come by when it come to botanical taxonomy) that this plant belongs to the Trimezia genus rather than Neomarcia. The differences are subtle and both groups share the propensity to readily reproduce themselves by producing new shoots along long arching stems that develop into a new plants a short distance away. But there are differences in the shape and structure of both the flowers, fronds and supporting root systems.
