As a biennial, the leaves form a rosette the first year followed by the flower spike the next year. Prefers a nitrogen-rich sandy loam soil, in partial sun to full shade. Foxgloves makes a fantastic back of the border plant where the strong vertical accent can really show. Digitalis is great for attracting hummingbirds, and cut flower gardens. Many foxgloves have purple, white, yellow or pink colored flowers on 4-6’ stalks.
